Pilates is a form of exercise developed by Joseph Pilates in the early 20th century. It's a method to strengthen & stabilize the mind-body connection. The muscles of all human beings get imbalanced daily because of overuse - what Pilates does is help to counteract that. The Pilates method concentrates on movement initiated from use of the abdominals - flowing movement patterns that are precise & steady with mindful breathing.

Contemporary dance also developed in the 20th century. With a focus of connecting the mind & the body through fluid dance movement, it's considered a form of storytelling. The term contemporary dance describes movements that don't adhere to the strict rules of "classical dance". It combines elements of several dance genres including modern, jazz, lyrical as well as classical ballet. It blends elements of multiple dance styles where you can express emotionality through movements as well as breath.
